いらっしゃいませ!

Chloe Pascal is convinced that her family is crazy. Her parents, who have devoted their lives to studying foreign cultures, are moving them to rural Japan, and sending her, her little brother Nathan, and her baby sister Alexis, to Japanese schools for a year! The kids at Torahime Senior High School are fascinated by their new "exchange student"—how can one girl seem to be so sophisticated to some and such a baby to others? As their own stories mesh with that of the redhead from across the Pacific, everyone learns a little bit about friendship, understanding, and just what makes us all different—and yet so alike. Welcome to Aka-chan in Nihon, an Internet Cartoon.

Aka-chan in Nihon is an original story by Jessie Mannisto—that'd be me!—and part of my domain, Skygawker.com. The links at left will take you to the main attraction—the stories—as well as plenty of extras, including a real-life photo album of the setting.

I hope that you will enjoy your visit. Please be sure to sign the guestbook before you leave. ありがとうございます! ("Thank you!")

Oh, one last thing: in case you were curious, the Japanese text at the top of this frame says "Irasshaimase!" That means "welcome!"

About the layout: "Cherry blossoms blooming over Lake Biwa" is layout version 3.1. The background image was scanned from a tourist pamphlet on Shiga Prefecture, and modified using Paint Shop Pro 7. Though such features such as the fixed background will show up only with Netscape 6 or a browser of the same or later generation, all content should be accessible to all users, regardless of browser or version. Unfortunately, it has proven a bit harder to make peace between differing resolutions; this layout was designed in 800x600 and looks fine at 1024x768 as well; larger resolutions, however, may have less than optimum readability depending on their computer's settings. I am currently trhing to figure out how to fix this. Please let me know if you have any difficulty accessing any of the content.
